FOIA Request to South Georgia State College Regarding Chinese National Students on June 4, 2025.

As part of our commitment to transparency and accountability in local governmental affairs, SE Georgia News has submitted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to South Georgia State College. The request seeks detailed information about the college’s current Chinese National students and their affiliations with various departments and scholarship programs.

The request specifically asks for documents or lists showing all current students who are Chinese Nationals, including their department of study. If student names are protected under privacy laws, we have requested that the total number of such students be provided instead, broken down by department where possible.

Additionally, we have sought information on scholarships awarded to these students. This includes details on the amount of each scholarship received by Chinese National students and the source of these scholarships. We are particularly interested in any scholarships affiliated with the Chinese Scholarship Council.

Furthermore, we have requested any policies or procedures that describe how the university monitors its students—including Chinese Nationals—to protect intellectual property and other confidential information.

This request is made on behalf of SE Georgia News and The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy, a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting transparency in government actions. As members of the media, access to public records is crucial for us to hold public institutions accountable and provide transparency to our readers. Given our role in disseminating important information to the public, we believe this request qualifies for a fee waiver as per media professional standards.

We await a response from South Georgia State College and will continue to keep our audience informed about developments regarding this request.
