On February 27, 2026, drug agents from the Douglas-Coffee County Drug Unit assisted Broxton Police Department officers during a traffic stop involving a white pickup truck. Officers had information that the driver of the vehicle was wanted on an active warrant.

When officers attempted to pull over the vehicle using emergency lights, the driver did not stop immediately and continued driving through several roads. The vehicle finally stopped after police blocked its path.

During the incident, a passenger identified as John High exited the vehicle and ran into a wooded area. Officers pursued him on foot, gave verbal commands for him to surrender, and he complied without further incident.

The D.I.C.E. Unit provided K-9 support to search the area where High fled. During this search, investigators found a small clear plastic bag containing suspected crack cocaine about ten feet from where High tried to hide. Investigators noted that while the ground was wet from earlier rain, the plastic bag remained dry, suggesting it had been recently discarded. The suspected drugs were collected and handed over to the Douglas-Coffee County Drug Unit for further investigation.

After being interviewed by drug agents, High admitted he ran from officers because he had drugs in his possession.

As a result of this investigation, John High faces charges of possession of cocaine with intent to distribute under Georgia Code 16-13-30(b), and obstruction of a law enforcement officer under Georgia Code 16-10-24(a).

“This case highlights the continued collaboration between the Broxton Police Department and the Douglas-Coffee County Drug Unit, whose coordinated efforts helped ensure the suspect was safely apprehended and illegal narcotics were removed from the community. Authorities remain committed to working together across jurisdictions to address criminal activity and protect the citizens of Coffee County.”
