6

City of Denton issued the following announcement on Oct. 4

Reinwand, who previously served as the City of Denton’s First Assistant City Attorney, has been selected as the new City Attorney. As City Attorney, he serves as chief legal advisor for the City Council, the City Manager and staff, City boards and commissions, and represents the City in all legal proceedings. His appointment is effective immediately.

The Denton City Council officially appointed Reinwand as part of today’s special-called meeting. The appointment follows a nationwide search by executive recruitment firm GovHR. A total of 14 applicants responded, and GovHR narrowed the list to 5 candidates. Council further reviewed and interviewed these candidates on Sept. 13, 2021.

Reinwand brings to the position legal knowledge and experience in diverse areas such as economic development, procurement and contracting, land use, annexation, gas drilling regulation, real estate, franchises, ethics, elections, and open government.

Mayor Gerard Hudspeth congratulated Reinwand on his new position, adding, “Mack brings extensive knowledge and experience in serving and advising municipalities. We look forward to his continued outstanding work and service in this new capacity as City Attorney for Denton.” Mayor Hudspeth also extended his sincere appreciation to Catherine Clifton for her service as interim city attorney since June 2021.

Reinwand is a Brigham Young University graduate and earned his Juris Doctorate at the University of Oklahoma City. He began his career with the City of Arlington and later represented municipalities throughout DFW in private practice before joining the Denton City Attorney’s Office in 2018.

"Being selected as City Attorney is an honor, and I am grateful to have the confidence of the City Council,” said Reinwand. "I am excited to represent Denton at this important time for our City. I look forward to working with our talented legal team to serve the Denton community."
