City of Denton issued the following announcement on Dec. 15
Denton business, Bunch Bikes was named Small Business of the Year by the Denton Economic Development Partnership Board. Bunch Bikes create front load-carrying cargo bikes that give cyclists a wide range of possibilities for whatever they want to take along for the ride. The three-wheeled bikes are available in a manual or electric mode and come with different sized front compartments that can accommodate groceries, six children, or even two dogs. Bunch Bike's premiere product, The Coupe, is the only bike of its type in North America.
Aaron Powel, a former Denton teacher, started Bunch Bikes in 2017 and has grown the business substantially, including an increase in sales during the pandemic that led the company to need to expand to a larger space in Denton, doubling its footprint. Bunch Bikes appeared on the hit TV show “Shark Tank” resulting in a few investment deals and a ton of national attention! Each year the Economic Development Partnership Board recognizes a small and large business for their contribution to the economic growth and prosperity of the Denton community. Businesses are nominated by the Economic Development Partnership Board members for such worthy contributions as public/private partnerships, job creation, community relations and support, longevity and commitment to the community, leadership in their respective industry, successful business practices, innovation, and environmental stewardship. Recipient selection criteria previously adopted by the Economic Development Partnership Board is utilized to aid in the nomination and selection of a recipient company. Consideration is for business exhibiting these characteristics September 2020 – August 2021.
