Driver's Education on February 14

City of Jesup recently issued the following announcement.

Steps to Register

Apply for Grant Scholarship (Optional)

Please wait for your award status notification before proceeding to step #2.

Click on “Student Login” and complete the application process.

After submitting the application, you should receive an email notifying you of the scholarship award status on the first day of the following month (exceptions may apply for those who apply during the last week of the month). If awarded the scholarship, the GDEC will provide you with a voucher code. The voucher will expire at the end of the month awarded.

Complete and submit the required Driver's Education Form.

Please wait for a registration confirmation before proceeding to step #3 or #4.

If you did NOT apply for or receive a grant scholarship, then register and pay for the course on this webpage by selecting "Schedule Options" above.

If you DID receive a grant scholarship, then forward scholarship grant approval email to communityed@coastalpines.edu along with the start date and location of your course selection from "Schedule Options" above. A representative will respond to your email ASAP.

Information

"Joshua's Law" requires those who are 16 and 17 years old complete an approved driver education course (https://dds.georgia.gov/joshuas-law-requirements). Coastal Pines Technical College (CPTC) is an authorized provider in the Georgia Driver’s Education Grant Scholarship Program.

Full Course (36 Hours) - $350

30 hours of on campus or live online instruction followed by 6 hours of behind-the-wheel training (BTWT) delivered by a certified driving instructor. A valid driving permit is required. This course is eligible for the Georgia Driver’s Education Commission (GDEC) grant scholarship. This course meets requirements for the GDEC and the Georgia Department of Driver Services (DDS). The following criteria must be met:

Student must attend all class dates for the entire duration of each class and follow all rules and guidelines.

Student must pass the final written exam with a grade of at least 70%.

Student must have enough driving experience to pass the six hours of BTWT.

Note #1 - The Full Course and Classroom Only options may be delivered on campus or live online. If you may choose a live online option, then please note the below:

Requires access to internet, audio, and video.

Requires a laptop or desktop computer. Phones or tablets may present issues.

Requires use of Chrome or Firefox as internet browser. Use of Edge may present issues.

Note #2 - Many insurance companies award a reduction on insurance premiums upon successful completion of the Full Course (36 Hours) or at least six hours of behind-the-wheel training.

Note #3 - Students who are between 15 and 17 years of age and possess a valid learner’s permit are eligible to apply for the grant scholarship offered by the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety (GOHS).
