The Georgia Southern baseball team took down the 19th-ranked Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets 10-6 on Tuesday night in J.I. Clements Stadium. The win gave the Eagles their first win against the Yellow Jackets in 11 games.
The Eagles did not waste any time getting on the board, as they put up two runs in the bottom of the first. Jesse Sherrill reached home on a fielding error by the pitcher to make the score 1-0, and Christian Avant scored on a sacrifice fly from Corey Dowdell, giving Dowdell his first RBI on his first career start and giving the Eagles a 2-0 lead after the first frame.
In the second inning, Parker Biederer brought Jason Swan home on a sacrifice bunt, stretching the Eagles lead to 3-0. The Yellow Jackets answered in the top of the third, with Parada hitting a two-run home run to cut the lead to 3-2. In the bottom of the third, Swan hit a double, scoring JP Tighe, and shortly after, Jarrett Brown hit a single to left field, bringing Swan in to give the Eagles a 5-2 lead.
Georgia Tech tied the game in the top of the fourth, after a single from Reid scored Gonzalez, and a two run home run from Hall scored the tying run, evening the score at 5-5. The Eagles would add one more in the bottom of the fourth off a Noah Searcy ground out that drove Sherrill in, bringing the score to 6-5. The score would stay until the bottom of the sixth, where Noah Ledford doubled to right center field, scoring Tighe and Searcy, setting the score at 8-5.
Georgia Tech would add one more in the top of the seventh, but the Eagles would score the final two runs in the bottom of the eighth to seal the deal, with Ledford driving in Avant off a single to second, and Tighe scoring off a bases loaded walk, bringing the final to 10-6.
