City of Douglas issued the following announcement on March 2
City Commissioner (Ward 3) Olivia Pearson and City Commissioner (Ward 4) Mike Gowen were recognized by the Mayor and Board of Commissioners for their achievements with the Georgia Municipal Association (GMA) at the February 28, 2022 City Commission meeting.
City Commissioner Mike Gowen was recognized for completing the annual Robert E. Knox, Jr. Municipal Leadership Institute. The multi-day Leadership Institute, co-sponsored by GMA and the University of Georgia’s Carl Vinson Institute of Government, featured a nationally recognized training development consultant and speaker. Participants also engaged in role-playing exercises designed to cultivate and enhance leadership skills.
City Commissioner Olivia Pearson received GMA’s Certificate of Dedication from the Harold F. Holtz Municipal Training Institute. Recipients of the Certificate of Dedication have completed at least 276 hours of training, including at least 108 hours from the required list, 18 hours of which must be from the Advanced Leadership track, and the Robert E. Knox, Jr. Municipal Leadership Institute. After obtaining the Certificate of Dedication, officials must complete nine hours of continuing education each year to maintain the certificate.
GMA Executive Director Larry Hanson stated, “We applaud City Commissioner Pearson and City Commissioner Gowen for their dedication shown in using this valuable resource to become more effective city officials.”
