Women's Tennis Adds Grad Transfer Olivia Ryan For 2022-23

23

Georgia Southern Head Women's Tennis Coach Sean McCaffrey announced the addition of Olivia Ryan as a graduate transfer for the upcoming 2022-23 season. Ryan will join the Eagles from Penn State, where she has played the last four seasons.

A native of Victoria, Australia, Ryan joined Penn State in the Fall of 2018. Prior to joining the Nittany Lions, she was ranked No. 8 in Australia for the 18 and under age group, and ranked as high as No. 2 in Victoria for her age group. She was also ranked No. 78 in Australia for Women's Open age group. Ryan owns two Australian Adult Singles Titles and six Australian Doubles Titles. Additionally, Ryan was the captain of the Victoria state team in 2016.

At Penn State, Ryan has competed in 37 singles and 49 doubles matches over her four seasons. Currently in 2021-22, she has played primarily doubles, compiling an 8-7 overall doubles record, including a 5-2 dual match record at No. 2 doubles with teammate Yvonne Suffova.

"I am extremely excited to be joining the Georgia Southern Eagles to see out my final year of eligibility," Ryan said. "All throughout the recruiting process, Coach McCaffrey has been very supportive and I am beyond blessed to be presented with this opportunity. I look forward to getting on campus and meeting the team, as well as helping achieve the teams' goals for the upcoming season!"

"I am very excited to have Olivia join the program in August," Coach McCaffrey said. "You can tell she has what it takes to be a strong teammate both on and off the court. She is conscientious and disciplined in everything she does and I could immediately tell she has a selfless attitude and a ton of integrity…something that is extremely important to our program. Having Olivia join us for her grad year also helps bring a level of maturity and wisdom that we can never have too much of. I think she will fit right in from the very beginning here in Statesboro and I'm excited to have her positive energy added to ab already great group of women."
