Former Andrew College men's golfer Rasmus Konradsson has advanced through a United States Golf Association (USGA) Local Qualifier, shooting a 68(-4) at the The Federal Club in Glen Allen, VA on May 5 to become one of just 5 golfers out of the 90 who attempted, to move on to the USGA Final Qualifying Round. A total of 8,800 entries did battle over 109 different venues across the United States in the month of May to produce the 530 golfers, who now will join the 340 international qualifiers competing for a chance to tee off in the 122nd U.S. Open Golf Championship, being held at The Country Club in Brookline, Mass. on June 16-19, 2022. Konradsson will play two rounds at The Club at Admirals Cove in Jupiter, FL on June 6, looking to nab one the 78 coveted qualifier entries into the U.S. Open field.
For the 10th straight year, more than 9,000 golfers have entered the championship. To be eligible, a player must have a Handicap Index of 1.4 or lower, or be a professional. Entries were received from all 50 states (including 232 from Massachusetts), the District of Columbia and 79 foreign countries.
Konradsson, from Sundsvall, Sweden, played two years at Andrew for Head Coach Aaron Feyes, where he was a 2018 NJCAA Div. II PING All-Region selection, a 2019 NJCAA All-District IV selection, and Andrew's leading scorer fourteen times in the sixteen tournaments Andrew played in over his two-year career. He sank a 15 foot birdie on the 18th hole to finish off his 3rd round at the 2019 NJCAA District IV Championship with a 73(+2), vaulting him six spots on the individual leaderboard into a T10th, and earned him a spot in the 2019 NJCAA Div. I National Championship.
Transferring to NCAA Div. I Old Dominion University in Norfolk, VA, Konradsson played in all 10 events for the Monarchs this past season, posting a 73.13 average over 30 rounds, with a low round of 67, and a top finish of T6th at the Golden Horshoe Intercollegiate in late March.
Fellow Swede and Andrew College golfer Andres Tancred reached this same level in the summer of 2018 in attempting to qualify for that years British Open.
