Softball Adds Four Transfers For 2022-23

Georgia Southern Head Softball Coach Sharon Perkins has announced the addition of four transfers who will join the Eagles for the Fall of 2022.

The quartet include a pair of P5 transfers in pitcher Morgan Kendrick (Fleming Island, Fla. / Florida State) and infielder Faith Barth (Dacula, Ga. / Georgia) as well as a pair of junior college transfers in infielder Emily Greek (Thomasville, Ga.) and pitcher Graceanne Spears (Opp, Ala.), both coming to Statesboro from Gulf Coast State College.

"This group of transfers will provide depth and internal competition that will only strengthen our team as we prepare to do battle in our new and improved Sun Belt Conference," Coach Perkins said. "We are looking forward to working with our incoming transfers, as well as our incoming freshmen, to mesh them with our returning players. With what we have returning and what we have coming in, we are building something pretty special here. Hail Southern!"

Faith Barth

5'5 • INF • L/R

Dacula, Ga.

Archer HS / University of Georgia

Played for one year at the University of Georgia ... Saw action in 19 games, going 1-for-6 at the plate with two RBI and five runs scored ... Played for four years at Archer HS ... Two-time All-State honoree for the Tigers ... Hit .467 as a senior with a .537 OBP, launching 14 home runs and driving in 54 RBI ... 2020 Gwinnett Daily Post Softball Super Six player ... Four-time All-Region performer ... Played club for Ga Power and EC Bullets.

Coach Perkins: "Faith is athletic enough to play multiple positions, but having a chance to work with her for years offensively and defensively prior to college, she is a solid shortstop that brings a strong bat with power from the left side."

Emily Greek

6'2 • INF • R/R

Thomasville, Ga.

Thomas County Central HS / Gulf Coast State College

Played for two seasons at Gulf Coast State College ... Earned All-Region honors for the Commodores ... Hit .335 as a junior with seven home runs, 46 RBI and 12 stolen bases ... Two-time FSCAA Player of the Week honoree ... Played four years at Thomasville HS, earning All-Region honors four times ... Also swam and played basketball during her high school career.

Coach Perkins: "Emily is coming in as a shortstop, but has the build and ability to play multiple positions, which will give our team greater flexibility.  She is a righty hitter with power and a high batting average. I know Emily is well coached having played for Scot Thomas, who I've always had a lot of respect for."

Morgan Kendrick

5'6 • RHP • R/R

Fleming Island, Fla.

Clay HS / Florida State University

Attended Florida State in 2021-22 but did not pitch for the Seminoles ... Three-time All-State honoree at Fleming Island HS ... Threw three no-hitters as a freshman and struck out 168 batters in 102 innings of work ... Member of the National Honor Society ... Played club for Santa Fe Inferno and coach Jason Nowling.

Coach Perkins: "Morgan was a highly recruited and successful pitcher out of high school and travel ball.  She is coming to us off a redshirt season from a championship program and we are expecting her to bring that mentality and skillset to Statesboro."

Graceanne Spears

5'10 • RHP • R/R

Opp, Ala.

Opp HS / Gulf Coast State College

Played one year at Gulf Coast State College ... Went 17-12 with a 1.34 ERA, striking out 245 batters in 173 innings of work ... ERA ranked second among DI pitchers in NJCAA Region 8 ... Earned first-team All-State honors for the Commodores ... Played for four years at Opp HS ...  Named Conference Pitcher of the Year ... Also earned first-team All-State honors for the Bobcats.

Coach Perkins: "Graceanne's statistics really stood out to me.  She also played for Scot Thomas, who has had numerous successful pitchers over the years. GA will offset our current pitching staff to give us a different look.  She had many other choices and we are thrilled she chose Southern."
