Members of the Emory University swimming team took part against some of the country's top swimming talents in the first USA Swimming national meet of the year, competing at the TYR Pro Swim Series in Knoxville, Tennessee.

Ten Eagles hit the pool in six different events on Thursday as the meet got underway in earnest with four advancing to the B Final in their respective event while an additional three qualified for C Finals.

Three swimmers reached the consolation final in the 100 Breaststroke with sophomore Liyang Sun leading the way as he finished 14th with a finals time of 1:04.45. Junior Jake Meyer finished 15th at 1:04.64 and graduate student Jason Hamilton was 16th at 1:04.74. The Emory trio were three of 16 swimmers to qualify for the championship and consolation finals out of the 36-swimmer prelim field.

In the men's 400 IM, both sophomore Crow Thorsen and junior Ryan Gibbons were heat winners during the morning session with Thorsen's time of 4:32.60 leading to a berth in the B Final while Gibbons landed in the C Final with his mark of 4:40.52. During the finals session, Thorsen lowered his time to 4:30.94 as he finished 11th overall whereas Gibbons took 19th at 4:41.26.

Elsewhere, senior Lawrence Redmond and junior Megan Jungers advanced to C finals in the 50 Backstroke thanks to several withdrawals ahead of them following prelims. Redmond finished 26th in the morning at 27.20 and was 24th at night with a time of 27.68. For Jungers, she placed 27th in prelims at 30.21 and would touch at 30.10 in the finals for a 24th place overall finish. She also took part in the 100 Fly and finished 49th at 1:06.41.

Other Eagles in action on Thursday was graduate student Taylor Leone in the 100 Fly (47th, 1:05.72) and senior Pat Pema (46th, 1:57.08) and junior Nicholas Goudie (54th, 1:58.48) in the 200 Freestyle.

The TYR Pro Swim Series continues on Friday in Knoxville with prelims getting underway at 9:00 AM.
