Four Emory University student-athletes were named as University Athletic Association Athletes of the Week Monday afternoon as announced by the conference office.
Track and Field highlighted the selections with three Eagles being tabbed for weekly honors while sophomore Crow Thorsen from men's swimming and diving rounded out the selections. Seniors Spencer Moore and Annika Urban swept the indoor track honors and in men's indoor field, freshman Henry Brandstadter continued his stellar rookie campaign with his third Athlete of the Week. For Thorsen, this is his first weekly honor this season and second of his career. As for Urban, this is her eighth weekly award for the 2022-23 calendar, second during the track season, whereas Moore garners his second career honor and first-ever for indoor track.
Thorsen recorded a pair of NCAA B Cuts as Emory defeated Delta State in dual meet action Saturday afternoon. Thorsen won both individual events he swam in, posting season best times in each. In the 400 IM, Thorsen lowered his previous best time by 5.59 to win the event by nearly 10 seconds, turning in a top time of 3:54.45 which is the fastest swim in Division III so far this season. In the 200 Fly, Thorsen registered a winning time of 1:49.30, moving him to 16th in the Division III ranks.
Moore had one of the finest days of his illustrious career finishing the mile run with a time of 4:09.86, a time that represents the best time in program history. Moore's time is seventh fastest in the nation and first in the conference so far this season.
Urban continues to etch herself in the record books as she raced in the mile run invite at the Carolina Challenge, where she ran a new personal best of 4:56.66 which moved her to third fastest in program history. Urban's time places her with the third fastest time in Division III this season and the fastest in the UAA.
Brandstadter continues to dominate in his first collegiate season, eclipsing his previous mark of 7.20m in the long jump for a new program record distance of 7.21m at the Carolina Challenge in Columbia, South Carolina on Saturday. Brandstadter's new record-setting distance is the fourth best in Division III this season and leads the conference. Brandstadter also competed in the high jump at the Carolina Challenge, registering a height of 1.85m that placed him eighth in the competition.
Swimming & Diving is back in the pool on Saturday against University of Georgia while track & field is off this weekend before returning to competition with the South Carolina Invitational on February 3-4.
