Emory University Assistant Vice President of Campus Life/Clyde Partin Sr., Director of Athletics Keiko Price has announced the appointment of Bridget Disher as the head coach of the Emory Women's Tennis program.
The news comes after Disher was named Interim Head Coach this past August following the retirement of Amy Bryant after a tenure of 23 years in the position.
"I have no doubt Bridget will thrive as our permanent head women's tennis coach," Price stated. "Since taking over the program this past fall, she has demonstrated her devotion to competitive excellence. She has an unwavering commitment to providing our student-athletes with an exceptional experience at Emory. Her leadership, mentoring, and competitive edge is what our tennis program needs to continue to flourish."
During the fall season, Disher led the Eagles across several individual tournaments and saw senior captain Stephanie Shulman reach All-America status after capturing the ITA Regional singles title.
"It is an understatement to say I am honored to have been chosen as the Head Coach of Emory Women's Tennis," said Disher. "As an alumna, and now coach of the program, I have a deep appreciation for what we do and tremendous respect for the legacy I have been tasked with carrying on. I am beyond grateful for this opportunity, for Keiko and Devon's belief in my vision, and for the support I have received from my staff and the athletic department as a whole. I look forward to leading our program and our players to new heights. I have big shoes to fill!"
After an illustrious playing career Disher joined the coaching ranks, serving as a volunteer assistant with the Eagles for two seasons, which included the team's national championship run in 2021, before becoming a full-time assistant prior to the 2021-22 season.
Prior to coaching, Disher was a standout performer for the Eagles from 2014-18, leading the team to four UAA championships, an appearance in the national championship match all four years and was part of the team's seventh national title in 2016. She graduated as the program's all-time leader with 113 doubles victories while ranking third all-time with 106 singles wins, one of three players in program history to record 100 or more victories in both. She was a three-time All-American in both singles and doubles, a three-time UAA All-Academic Team and UAA President's Council Scholar-Athlete selection as well as a recipient of the NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship.
Disher graduated from Emory in 2018 with a degree in Human Health and went on to obtain her master's degree from the Rollins School of Public Health.
