Saturday, April 15, 2023 - Registration for this class if open.

The Morgan County Sheriff’s Office offers a Citizen Handgun Safety class to Morgan County residents and Morgan County business owners throughout the year. The purpose of this class is to educate and instruct civilians on the proper use, safety, and laws regarding firearms.  

The classroom session will be held from 8:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. at the Morgan County Sheriff's Office located at 1380 Monticello Road.  During this session, we will discuss laws concerning the carry/possession of handguns, laws concerning self-defense, and firearms safety guidelines.  You must attend the classroom session to attend the shooting session.

The shooting session will be held at the Sheriff's Office Firing Range on Athens Highway.  At the range we will discuss/practice proper stance, grip, targeting of a handgun, and then we will shoot at practice targets.  The shooting sessions be  approximately 11:00 a.m. to  1:00 pm.      

REQUIREMENTS

-We only provide .38, 9mm. ammunition 

-No long guns will be permitted

-You must be 18 years of age or older and a resident of Morgan County

-You must pass a background check

-You must not have any felony convictions

-You must not have any Misdemeanor convictions for Domestic Violence

-Georgia firearm carry laws

-You will get an opportunity to practice with your weapon
