Senator Russ Goodman (R – Cogdell) recently returned to the United States after experiencing the violence and chaos caused by the Hamas attacks in Israel. Senator Goodman expressed his gratitude for a safe return and thanked God for the safety of his group and others who were with him.

"It is always good to be back in America after you have traveled outside our great nation," Senator Goodman said. "It has even more meaning after being in Israel while Hamas terrorists launched a sickening attack that killed hundreds of innocent Israelis. From hearing the rockets fired from the Iron Dome to automatic weapon fire heard near our hotel, it was quite an ordeal. I am thankful to God that my mom, our group, many others and I got out safely."

Senator Goodman arrived safely back in America with his family after witnessing the attacks by Hamas in Israel. In a press release, he stated, "My prayers for Israel and her people will continue. I saw the very best of the Israeli people in our time there, including our ex-military Israeli guide who stuck with us throughout – even as rockets landed within 200 yards of his home with his wife and children there. He embodied the resilience of the people of Israel. The reality is Hamas terrorists are killing Americans along with Israelis, and the people of Israel are protecting Americans. Above anything else, it shows the bond that our freedom-loving countries share."

Senator Goodman also expressed gratitude for the prayers and support received from individuals within Georgia, as well as from governmental and organizational entities such as the Governor’s Office, Lt. Governor, Senate Colleagues, State Representatives Lauren McDonald and Brent Cox, the Israeli Government, Delta Airlines, and the World Jewish Congress. He acknowledged their assistance in ensuring their safety during the Israel trip and return to the United States.

According to the New York Times, U.S. officials reported that at least 14 Americans were still unaccounted for in Israel, and it was unclear whether they were held by Hamas or not. The Hamas attacks in Israel have resulted in the loss of over 1,000 lives, including 27 American citizens.

Senator Russ Goodman represents District 8, covering Atkinson, Clinch, Echols, Lanier, Lowndes, Pierce Counties, and a significant portion of Ware County. He is also the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Agriculture and Consumer Affairs.

In a Facebook post, Senator Goodman shared that he joined his mother on a trip to the holy land, marking their first joint travel since his childhood. The trip took a harrowing turn with the outbreak of violence in Israel, but Senator Goodman and his group were fortunate to return safely to the United States.

Senator Goodman's experience in Israel during the Hamas attacks serves as a reminder of the ongoing conflict and the importance of supporting the people affected by the violence.
