Rep. Buddy Carter has secured $11.4 million in federal funding for the Brunswick Harbor Modification Project, enhancing the navigability and operational efficiency of the Port of Brunswick. The project is seen as a significant move that will benefit Georgia's trade industry and state economy.
"Rep. Earl L. 'Buddy' Carter has successfully secured $11.4 million in funding for the Brunswick Harbor Modification Project, as part of the Energy and Water Development and Related Agencies Appropriations Act for Fiscal Year 2024", said his office statement. "This investment will enhance the navigability and operational efficiency of the nation's second busiest port for Ro/Ro cargo, the Port of Brunswick, with an expected annual economic benefit of over $2.3 million." The project is deemed crucial for Georgia's economy and the global supply chain.
According to a press release by Representative Carter's office, funds will be used to modify its federal navigation channel at the Port of Brunswick, one of nation's leading Ro/Ro (roll on, roll off) cargo ports. After its completion, it is anticipated to generate an annual economic benefit surpassing $2.3 million.
"Projects like this contribute to Georgia’s status as the number one state in the nation to do business," said Representative Carter in his press release. He stressed on how vital The Port of Brunswick is for both local economy and global shipping community.
The press release by Representative Carter cited Griff Lynch, Georgia Ports Authority President and CEO stating that enhancements at the Port of Brunswick are expected to stimulate job growth in Southeast region by facilitating increased trade capacity. Expressing gratitude towards Congressman Carter and entire Georgia congressional delegation for their continuous support to expedite these improvements was also mentioned.
His office confirmed that Rep. Buddy Carter's funding was approved as part of Energy & Water Development & Related Agencies Appropriations Act for FY 2024 after his prior success securing $1.5 million for same project in FY23 budget.
Rep. Carter, an American pharmacist, has been serving as U.S. Representative for Georgia's 1st congressional district since 2015, which covers the coastal southern portion of the state including Savannah.
